Philadelphia Legal Assistance Protects Unemployed Against Fault Over Payment Mistakes

The government can no longer assess punitive fault overpayments on unemployment compensation claimants who make mistakes on their applications for benefits. With a big win from our nonprofit partner, Philadelphia Legal Assistance, and co-counsel Northwestern Legal Services, the government is required to find that the claimant intentionally provided incorrect information to assess the fault over payments. Hundreds of thousands of unemployed workers in the unemployment compensation system will now be protected for easily made errors.
