Board Observer Program Launches 2019 Cohort
We kicked off the eighth year of our Board Observer Program on January 31st, 2019. Board Observer Program alumni and supporters gathered at the Philadelphia office of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP to welcome 25 young lawyers and 24 nonprofit organizations participating in this year’s program.
The Board Observer Program, a collaboration between the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, the Delivery of Legal Services Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association (YLD), provides a unique opportunity for young lawyers to volunteer and serve of the boards of local nonprofit organizations for one year.
Bar Foundation Trustee Nick LePore, managing partner of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, welcomed this year’s participants to the program. Michaella Tassinari, Chair of the YLD, spoke about her experience as a Board Observer with our nonprofit partner, Justice at Work. Michaella had such a positive experience as a Board Observer that she now serves as secretary of Justice at Work’s board. Board Observer Program steering committee members Wendy Smith, Bar Foundation Trustee Nilam Sanghavi, and former Board Observer Matt Olesh shared guidelines for Board Observers and host organizations.
The Board Observer Program will provide a number of Continuing Learning Education programs to participants through the year.
