The Philadelphia Bar Foundation funds nearly 40 legal aid nonprofits, all of whom are doing incredible work in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania for the communities they serve. Our bi-weekly news round-ups highlight their recent activities:
1/14/2020 – Christian Soltysiak, the Interim Executive Director of CeaseFire PA, was interviewed by NBC10 about the increase in gun violence in Philadelphia.
1/14/2020 – Lock Haven University filed to settle a federal lawsuit, litigated in part by Women’s Law Project, which stated that the University violated the equal protection clause of Title IX by not providing enough athletic opportunities for female students.
1/11/2020 – The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania (ACLU) hosted a free screening and discussion of True Justice, a film about civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson.
1/8/2020 – Marsha Levick of Juvenile Law Center calls for additional justice system reforms in How Philadelphia Flipped: Second Chances for Youth, a profile of diversion programs in Philadelphia.
1/4/2020 – Jeannine Lisitski, Executive Director of Women Against Abuse, was interviewed by The Philadelphia Inquirer about the increased rate of homicides relating to domestic violence.
12/17/2019 – AL DÍA interviewed Jessica Feierman, Senior Managing Director of Juvenile Law Center, about the launch of Pennsylvania’s new Juvenile Justice Task Force, a partnership between the state legislators and Pew Charitable Trusts that will examine juvenile justice reform in PA.
