Nonprofit Partner Spotlight: CeaseFirePA

The mission of CeaseFirePA, one of our nonprofit partners, is to end the epidemic of gun violence across Pennsylvania and our country through education, coalition building, and advocacy. CeaseFirePA is comprised of an educational arm and an advocacy arm.

This statewide organization works with community leaders to build a support system for reducing gun violence within communities. They also work to stop the movement of illegal guns, and push for stronger gun control laws. In Pennsylvania, more people are killed by guns than automobile accidents every year. The CeaseFire PA Leadership Institute is an education and training program the organization created to enhance the skills, knowledge, and confidence of the community leaders they work with.

CeaseFirePA has been a staunch advocate for involving the medical community in gun violence prevention efforts. Through collaboration with medical professionals, they have produced educational programs and materials that can be used to advise patients of the dangers and consequences that guns can bring. In 2018, CeaseFirePA was part of the broad coalition that helped to enact Act 79, which disarms domestic abusers in Pennsylvania. This was a major victory as the first major gun violence prevention legislation in the state.
