R. Nicholas Gimbel Fund for Legal Excellence: Legal Persuasion in Writing
The R. Nicholas Gimbel Fund for Legal Excellence was created with contributions from friends, family, and colleagues to honor Nick Gimbel's memory and his passion for the law. Mr. Gimbel was a partner at the law firm of McCarter & English in Philadelphia and a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. The Philadelphia Bar Foundation is honored that Mr. Gimbel's family, friends, and colleagues have entrusted the Fund to its care, and is proud to offer training to public interest legal services attorneys who serve in the vanguard of efforts to provide equal access to justice. In October 2013, the Philadelphia Bar Foundation presented a three-day Trial Advocacy Program for Public Interest lawyers at Rutgers School of Law-Camden
In June 2014, in honor of its 50th Anniversary, the Philadelphia Bar Foundation in collaboration with Rutgers School of Law - Camden, and the Legal Writing Institute, will offer a three credit CLE on "Legal Persuasion in Writing" funded by the Gimbel Fund on Friday, June 27, 2014. The Legal Writing Institute, an organization of over 2,100 professors, judges, and practitioners devoted to the cause of teaching and producing high-caliber, client centered writing, will hold its 16th biennial conference in Philadelphia from June 29 through July 2, bringing hundreds of legal writing professionals to the city.
The "Legal Persuasion in Writing", hosted by the Legal Writing Institute and held at Rutgers University School of Law–Camden, is open to attorneys working at public interest organizations funded by the Philadelphia Bar Foundation (and others as space permits) and will teach persuasive legal writing techniques. The program will utilize a variety of teaching methods and the option to have some individualized “live critiquing” feedback (as desired by the participants).
