YSRP Helps Navigate the Next Steps for Juvenile Lifers with Resource App

  •

In January 2016, the Montgomery v. Louisiana U.S. Supreme Court decision was dubbed a monumental step for Juvenile Lifers – men and women who were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole while underage. The national ban retroactively overrules life-without-parole sentences for over 300 Philadelphians. The harsh reality is that for the majority of these men and women, transitioning from incarceration can be an extremely daunting task. To battle this issue, our nonprofit partner, Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP) launched an app to serve as a resource navigator for former lifers.

The Pennsylvania JLWOP Navigator (Juvenile Life Without Parole) is a digital portal providing over 700 resources and services throughout Pennsylvania’s 67 counties for former lifers, their families and their friends, who aren’t sure of the next steps after release. Many of the men and women being released can be overwhelmed with all the changes in their world occurring so quickly. YSRP has ensured that the Navigator can help ALL people; it displays large font and it is easy to navigate for those who aren’t as tech-savvy.
