The Philadelphia Bar Foundation Presents Four Law School Loan Repayment Fellowships
Philadelphia – The Philadelphia Bar Foundation recognized its 2018 Morris M. Shuster Public Interest Fellowships on Thursday, December 8th, 2018 at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Public Interest Day celebration at the Kline Institute of Trial Advocacy. Liz Chacko of Justice at Work, Mary Clark of HIAS Pennsylvania, Kae Greenberg of Community Legal Services, and Vanessa Stine of ACLU of Pennsylvania were each recipients of the fellowship.
The Morris M. Shuster Public Interest Fellowship Program provides educational loan repayment assistance in the form of forgivable loans to qualifying legal aid attorneys. Eligible attorneys must be employed full-time by non-profit legal aid organizations receiving grants from Philadelphia Bar Foundation.
In 2003, Morris M. Shuster, Esq. recognized the burden that student loan obligations may represent for public interest attorneys. He established the Fellowship as a means to help legal services organizations funded by the Bar Foundation attract and retain qualified attorneys and thereby help provide ongoing stability to Philadelphia’s legal services system.
Through programs, grants, and partnerships, the Philadelphia Bar Foundation removes barriers to justice, engages the community in support of civil legal aid, and builds system-wide capacity in order to strengthen the provision of quality legal services and to ensure that all individuals understand their rights to equal justice under law.
