Nonprofit Partner Spotlight: Juvenile Law Center
Juvenile Law Center (JLC) was founded in 1975 as the first U.S. nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting children's rights and interests. The organization supports youth and families as they navigate the child welfare system and the juvenile justice system. JLC works to develop and protect laws that maintain dignity, equity, and opportunity for youth throughout the United States.
The essential issues surrounding JLC's work with youth include prohibiting solitary confinement, limiting courts' ability to prosecute children as adults, working to prevent homelessness, and ending excessively harsh sentencing in the juvenile justice system.
Their collective efforts have played a critical role in many landmark Supreme Court rulings and have garnered global recognition. Annually, Juvenile Law Center is directly involved in approximately 100 cases nationwide.
